The Database Administrator is responsible for performing database software releases and system upgrades, evaluating and installing patches, maintaining and monitoring database system configurations/alerts, ensuring data integrity across systems/schemas, and day-to-day maintenance to ensure operability, performance, and availability of critical data. This role will assist in defining a supportable database backup strategy, coordinating/defining recovery tasks associated with BCP and DR exercises, and performing design and unification of large data sets and sources for a company-wide Business Intelligence Platform.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains production and test database performance/availability internally developed applications by leveraging SQL management tools and methods; including execution plan management, index tuning, recommending and implementing stored procedure performance enhancements, evaluating and recommending hardware resources, and identifying root causes and solutions for system performance and system capacity issues.
Implements and supports routine database maintenance processes including security patching, and database backup and retention policies.
Supports the change management process by implementing new releases and keeping all test environments in sync.
Supports customer requests for database reporting consulting and issue troubleshooting.
Identifies database requirements for new solutions by interviewing customers and collaborating with internal team members and program management staff.
Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
Supports efforts to design and execute Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery exercises.
Participates in product roadmap discussions and identifies key areas for database improvements in the product and incorporates these improvements into ongoing & future development initiatives.
Works on complex big data projects under the direction and coordination of senior team members.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related discipline
Knowledge of RDBMS systems and SQL language (ex: ANSI SQL, T-SQL, PL/SQL)
5-7 years of overall database administration experience
5+ years SQL Server
Production SQL Server administration/support experience
Experience/exposure working with big data and analytic platforms and familiarity with concepts including data lakes/warehouses, unstructured data, visualization, AI, and machine learning
Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot root cause of database related issues
Experience with AWS cloud hosting environments
Experience with object-oriented programming languages
Experience implementing and supporting transactional table replication/synchronization
